S.M.A.R.T. goals are detailed goals designed to provide clarity to the instructional work needed to be done in order to increase student achievement. S.M.A.R.T. goals expound upon the main goal.

Specific – well defined and clear to everyone: Who? What? Where?

Measurable – determines amount of progress: How will the goal be measured?

Action-Oriented – instructional strategies used to get students to the next level

Results-Oriented – describes desired results: Is the goal consistent with other goals?

Time Bound - states the timeframe for achieving the goal: When will this goal be achieved?
